About Bargad
Updated 1 November 2026 · By the Bargad team
A family tree app made for families that don’t fit a template.
Why it exists
Bargad began as one family’s tree: a big Indian family, with second marriages, half-brothers and half-sisters, and cousins who married cousins. Every app we tried picked one spouse to show, hid the other, or drew the same person twice. So we built one that draws a family the way it really is, with every marriage side by side and every child under their own parents.
The name is the banyan tree, बरगद: one tree whose branches put down roots of their own, the way each part of a family grows its own side.
What it does
- Draws the tree around you, with everyone labelled from where you stand, in English or in Hindi (chacha, mama, bua, mausi…).
- Lets relatives join and add their own side; the owner approves what they suggest for everyone else.
- Brings a tree from Ancestry, MyHeritage or FamilySearch (a GEDCOM file), and lets you download yours at any time.
- Records an elder’s answers in their own voice, and reminds the family of birthdays and anniversaries.
How it looks after your family
Trees are private: only the people the owner invites can see them, and they are never listed in search engines. Your family’s details are never sold, never used to train AI, and you can delete them yourself at any time. It’s free. The details are in our privacy page.

Look at a famous family tree or try the sample family, no account needed. The guide to making a family tree walks through the first three generations.
